Now I get to play it on PC with higher resolution at 60fps? This is one of my absolute favorite things about PC gaming. Being able to play old games with new life breathed into them.. It's a squad command game, and if it was the only around in its day then it would have been pretty cool. However, it absolutely does not stand the test of time. Antiquated mechanics and a resolution that maxes at 1024 really make this game not worth anyone's time. Go play the legenary Arma 3. really good game that not many people remember from back in the day, it is sad the devs went under and sold to a company that will do nothing with the IP. alot of people dont like the game due to not being able to labe it as a genre. for me the worst part was the voice acting was far from desirable IMO. top game play you wont find in many other games however fun gameplay that makes you think some what and curse at monitor.. Great game on windows xp but from VIsta its broken. While there are merits to Full Spectrum Warrior, I cannot recommend the game. I have little doubt that when the game launched in 2004, it was top-of-the-line, however, it has aged poorly.To start, the visuals are not a problem. Yes, they are dated, but they still hold up surprisingly well. The sound, however, is buggy. Sometimes effects make noise, sometimes they don't. At the very least, the voice-overs are in sync.That's the good news. The bad news is that the gameplay is massively dated. After having played games like XCOM, Men of War, Dawn of War 2, and Red Orchestra 1&2, I cannot say I enjoy playing Full Spectrum Warrior. The premise is novel, squad-based combat, multiple fireteams, cover that actually acts like cover. However, the interface is bad and as a result, the game is not fun to play. The visual cues are poorly placed and hard to see and the controls are far from optimal.The gameplay itself is interesting, however, the locked camera view and clunky controls make it very difficult to efficiently order your fireteams around. This is especially problematic when making use of destructable cover as whole fireteams can be wiped out before you can get your soldiers into flanking positions. Furthermore, Marine marksmanship apparently counts for nothing, as no matter what, enemies in cover cannot be hit.I wanted to like this game, but in the end the clunky controls and almost nonexistent GUI killed the experience for me. My recommendation? Find a paintball or airsoft field and play the real thing.. Golden oldie.. Bugged to hell, unplayable via steam.. I know this is late in the product's "life cycle", but maybe someone is just discovering this title. I am a casual gamer, but I like some hardcore titles, and have a serious rig for the newer stuff. I have played many of the top FPS games, but this was one of my first genuine squad-based games.I found this "new" approach to a combat game very intriguing and fun. While I usually prefer to be looking down the sights, I greatly enjoyed this style of play. You command one of two squads of four soldiers, and can switch back and forth between them at will, choosing which position you want to lead from while directing the other squad. It's all about learning and implementing proper flanking and cover tactics, using one squad to cover the other, or to create a diversion to draw the attention of the enemy while your squad moves to a better position. When done well, it's a very rewarding feeling as one squad takes out the surprised threat from the side or rear.I do agree with a couple of the complaints I've read in these reviews: there should definitely be more grenades available for use, especially for the M203 (what soldier would only carry two rounds of ammo for this vital weapon?), and they should get resupplied when the squads restock their rifle ammo. Also, you should be able to progress with a casualty or two, and get reinforcements at the beginning of the next mission--having to stop everything and carry a guy all the way back to wherever the last resupply truck is gets old. Having some way to render first aid on-site would've been nice. Having a little more range on hand-thrown grenades would also be nice--the game forces you too close on tosses due to the very limited range. These are all goals that would aid in the realism, as real troops would not have these limitations.Those nits aside, this is a very fun game. It looks quite good for the time of release, and there is a nice variety of terrain\/obstacles to route your squads through. Those looking for a good military game with a different feel from standard shooters would do well to try this one. Sure, it's a little old, and I'm sure there are newer ones that do many things better, but you could do a heck of a lot worse (especially for the tiny price you'd pay for a copy these days). I haven't played a lot of squad games, so I don't know what they may do differently, but I found this to be a very entertaining game for my tastes. The focus is totally on commanding and controlling your two fire teams. The shooting and action is very much in second place. In fact you don't actually do any shooting directly - you give an order when and where to fire, and your units start shooting. Not once will you directly engage a hostile with your own weapons. As is the way with many of these older games, don't expect an easy ride. Saving is checkpoint based only, and if you get a troop killed at any time, then it is back to the last checkpoint. And you have to activate the checkpoints manually so if you miss it, or forget, then it is back to the checkpoint from before that.I hear a lot of people complain about the interface, but in all honesty it is well thought out and works well for this style of game, and luckily there is a full tutorial that will allow you to get the hang of it before getting stuck into the campaign proper. So all in all, there is little else out there that allows you this level of command and control and for that reason alone makes it worth a play but be warned the game requires patience and can be brutally punishing in some places.
